“In MUN, it’s really nice to meet new people, says delegate Radhika Kannan. “You get to learn about their experiences – it’s really fun!” Kannan is a student at the Global Indian International School Singapore, and has attended numerous other MUN conferences. Last year, at THIMUN-Singapore II, Kannan actually reported for the Munity-East press team. This year though, it’s her first time as a delegate at THIMUN, and she represents the Czech Republic in the General Assembly 4. Kannan first became involved in Model U.N. when representatives from her school who had attended other MUN conferences talked about the experience in their school assembly, inspiring her to join MUN as well. For her, the most enjoyable part of being a delegate is “having the floor.” She does not dislike any part of the MUN conference, and says she “thoroughly loves everything about THIMUN-Singapore.”When asked to describe herself, Kannan used the words “outgoing and fun,” traits one can easily distinguish from the first meeting with the friendly delegate. Other than participating in MUN conferences, Kannan is also an avid reader – her favorite book is Elie Wiesel’s Night. One of her favorite activities is dancing, as she has been learning classical Indian dances for the past years. Her strong skills as a delegate can also be seen in her interest in debate, as she also participates in the Debate Excellence Program in Singapore. A strong debater and an enthusiastic delegate, Kannan has stated that she wants to pursue a major in chemical engineering. “I’m an environmentalist – I’m really into caring about the earth and making the world a greener place,” said Kannan. Al Gore, a famous advocate against global warming, is the person whom Kannan admires the most. Radhika Kannan is truly the well-rounded individual – she has stood out in her committee for her strong skills as a delegate, she likes to read, is involved in debate, dances, and is a true green environmentalist. Most of all, she loves MUN. For THIMUN-Singapore, delegates like Kannan are essential to the conference, contributing to the discussions and decision-making process.
